The Life of Prayer - Pavel Belous

In a world brimming with distractions, there exists one practice that stands unparalleled in its significance - the life of prayer. Pavel Belous shared this profound message at our summer gatherings. Our spiritual journey involves daily choices: to hide in God or to hide from Him. Through prayer, we make a personal appeal to a personal God, aligning ourselves with His word and will. Jeanne Guyon beautifully encapsulates this truth in her work, (Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ): "As you come to the Lord to pray, bring a full heart of pure love, a love that is not seeking anything for itself. Bring a heart that is seeking nothing from the Lord, but desires only to please Him and do His will."

Oh, Taste and See

Psalm 34:8 reminds us, "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!" This verse invites us to experience the goodness of God firsthand, finding our sanctuary in Him.

Seek His Presence Continually

Psalm 105:4 urges us to "Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!" This call to persistent pursuit of God's presence encourages a constant and intimate relationship with Him.

Pray in the Spirit

Ephesians 6:18 emphasizes the importance of praying at all times in the Spirit, "with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints." This verse highlights the need for vigilant and Spirit-led prayer.

Prayer and Thanksgiving

Philippians 4:6 instructs us to "not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." This passage teaches us to approach God with our needs while maintaining a heart of gratitude.

Ask, Seek, Knock

In Matthew 7:7, Jesus encourages us to be persistent: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." This promise assures us that our diligent prayers will be heard.

Ask in Faith

James 1:5-8 advises us to ask God for wisdom with unwavering faith, "for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind." This teaches us the importance of faith in our prayers.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 simply instructs us to "pray without ceasing." This encourages a continuous and ongoing dialogue with God throughout our lives.

Seek the Lord While He May Be Found

Isaiah 55:6 calls us to "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near." This verse emphasizes the urgency and opportunity of seeking God.

Refuge in God

Psalm 57:1-3 speaks of taking refuge in God: "Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!"

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:5-13 provides Jesus’ model for prayer, teaching us to pray with sincerity and humility: "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'"
